General Claudio Graziano of Italy will become the new chairman of the European Union Military Committee on 6 November, succeeding General Mikhail Kostarakos of Greece.

Gen Graziano’s appointment resulted in a reshuffle of Italy’s top military officials, with Italian Air Force chief Lieutenant General Enzo Vecciarelli succeeding Gen Graziano as chief of defence staff on 25 October. Lt Gen Vecciarelli has been promoted to the rank of general and was succeeded by Lieutenant General Alberto Rosso.
