The Turkish government's defence procurement and industrial development agency, the Savunma Sanayii Baskanligi (SSB), announced on 5 November that it had signed a contract with domestic missile manufacturer Rocketsan for the development of a micro-satellite launch system.

The programme, known as Mikro Uydu Fırlatma Sistemi (MUFS), will involve the creation of a capability to allow Turkey to launch satellites weighing up to 100 kg into a low-earth orbit of at least 400 km.
